Dr Neelam Wadhwani

Registered Psychologist | Neurodiversity-Affirming Practice

I am a registered psychologist with extensive experience supporting neurodivergent children, adolescents, adults, and families, as well as individuals navigating relationship challenges, workplace stress, and recovery following injury or psychological trauma.

My practice is grounded in a neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based approach, recognising neurological and psychological differences as part of human diversity rather than deficits. I work with individuals across the lifespan, including those with autism, ADHD, learning differences, cognitive and developmental differences, and those experiencing co-occurring mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, emotional regulation difficulties, trauma, and adjustment stress.

In addition to my neurodiversity work, I have significant experience supporting clients presenting with relationship and interpersonal concerns, including communication difficulties, family conflict, relationship stress, infertility-related distress, and life transitions. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space to explore relational patterns, strengthen emotional connection, and build healthier ways of relating to self and others.

I have also worked extensively within workers’ compensation and rehabilitation settings, supporting individuals experiencing workplace injury, psychological injury, burnout, and return-to-work stress. My approach in this space is compassionate and recovery-focused, helping clients rebuild confidence, manage symptoms, navigate complex systems, and achieve safe and sustainable participation in work and daily life.

I currently collaborate closely with schools, paediatricians, general practitioners, allied health professionals, employers, insurers, and families, ensuring that therapeutic insights translate into practical and meaningful outcomes. My work includes psychological assessment, therapeutic intervention, behaviour support, and consultation, with a strong emphasis on reducing cognitive and emotional load in environments that may feel overwhelming or invalidating.

My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive. I integrate evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, person-centred therapy, and play-based approaches, tailoring therapy to each individual’s capacity, neurotype, and lived experience.

Above all, I believe that effective therapy begins with feeling understood, respected, and safe. I work alongside clients as a partner in their journey, supporting emotional wellbeing, self-understanding, autonomy, and meaningful change.
